Cherry Creek Reservoir (just south of Denver) and Boulder Reservoir (just North East of Boulder) are our two main locations where we teach a variety of programs. At Community Sailing Colorado we teach programs such as youth summer camps, adult classes, adaptive sailing, outreach events, junior race team, sailboat rentals, corporate teambuilding, company parties and so much more. Our goal is to make sailing accessible to all in Colorado, regardless of age and ability. This past season CSC was able to share sailing with over 3,000 people in Colorado. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we couldn’t do this without our generous donors who provide scholarships for our youth as well as funding for our adaptive and outreach programs. Our Summer Camps are an incredible opportunity for adventurous youth, ages 5-18, to experience all that sailing has to offer. What could be more fun than driving around in what feels like a wind-powered floating go-kart? In addition to the excitement it brings, sailing also helps youth further develop skills such as collaboration, creative problem solving, independence, leadership, and effective communication. At CSC we feel these experiences reach beyond the shores of our reservoirs and really expand a child’s life. Thanks to donations made to our scholarship program last year, we awarded scholarships to 51 young members of our community who couldn’t otherwise afford it. Adaptive Sailing Program CSC’s most impactful program is our Adaptive Sailing Program. This program provides low to no cost sailing opportunities and breaks down barriers for participants living with physical and cognitive disabilities. Utilizing specially designed equipment, including five adaptive boats and unique programming, CSC teaches sailing to members of our community regardless of ability. This program put over 500 people on the water in 2018! We host dozens of group outings each year with other partner organizations such as Craig Hospital and NSCD who serve individuals living with disabilities. We rely on a huge team of volunteers to help make these experiences safe, seamless and memorable. In addition, during the 2nd or 4th Mondays of June-August, we host free open-house style adaptive sailing nights that are very popular. Consider volunteering at one of these events and truly make an impact on the lives of individuals who couldn’t believe sailing was a possibility. These outings are extremely special to us by truly making sailing accessible to all. Giving Back To The Community If you’re looking for a way to give back to your community, there are so many ways to get involved and prior sailing experience is not always required. Volunteering at any one of these events could be as simple as, signing sailors in, fitting life jackets, helping someone into a boat, or taking photos to document the day. We also always welcome experienced sailors who are ready to put their nautical skills to philanthropic use. Regardless of the task at hand, our volunteers find it incredibly rewarding to be part of such an empowering experience. This past year with a team of 154 youth and adult volunteers we clocked over 2,000 hours of volunteer time and are honored by this kind support and dedication our community has. New Programs This year we are excited to offer even more new programs than ever before. With additional levels built into our summer camps this year, we will be able to cater to our youth even better than before. We also have a new daytime High School Adventure Sailing program in the summer that we are excited to extend to our teenage community. On top of new youth programs, we’re also offering new adult programs: Young Professionals Sailing; Wind, Women & Water; Intro to Racing Clinics; and a Basic Keelboat Class. We’ve even shifted our Adult Sailing classes to a 4 class punch card model so you can pick and choose which classes fit best in your busy schedule! We’re also adding more events that are fun for the whole family: Friday Night Open Sail BBQs; Friends & Family Sailing; Sailboat Rentals; and First Sail Nights. So whether your 5 or 105, beginner or experienced sailor, we’ve got a program for you. Check out our website for more information and sign up for a camp or class today!
