United Mothers of Loss Foundation supports families affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, pregnancy loss, and infant loss. Founded in Michigan on March 15, 2024, our public charity works to ensure that families facing these losses can find support, remembrance, and a community that recognizes their babies and their grief. Our mission is reflected in the words “Turning Loss Into Light.” For this application, we propose using printed materials to make that support easier to find and easier to share.
Grief can make it difficult to absorb information in a single conversation. A carefully written brochure or resource card gives a family something they can return to when they are ready. Our proposed print project would introduce UMLF, explain how to contact us, and present available support and referral information in clear, compassionate language. We would develop materials with readability in mind, using legible type, sufficient contrast, and a calm design. Printed contact information would also provide an option for people who prefer not to begin by navigating a website.
One intended use is hospital and community outreach. We would use introductory brochures and concise referral materials to explain UMLF's mission to potential referral partners. These materials could help staff and volunteers understand whom we support and how a family can reach us. The goal would be to make a referral more practical: a person offering support could hand someone a clear starting point, with our website, email address, and telephone number together in one place. We would confirm any hospital distribution arrangements before printing hospital-specific materials.
Another intended use is information included with bereavement and comfort care packages. A printed message can acknowledge a family's loss while explaining how to stay connected with UMLF. We would consider resource inserts, care-package cards, and small brochures that can be kept alongside other support items. We would avoid promises that we cannot fulfill and would review contact and referral details before production. The purpose would be to offer a useful connection beyond the moment a package is received.
Print could also support future remembrance activities and grief education. Depending on the award and our confirmed plans, appropriate pieces might include remembrance programs, workshop handouts, or information about peer support. Families should be able to understand an event's purpose and participation options without searching through several different channels. We would select print quantities only after confirming the activity, audience, content, and budget. This application does not assume that funding would arrive in time for our October 2026 activities.
Our approach to direct mail would be focused and practical. If appropriate within the grant's permitted uses, we would consider mailing introductory information to confirmed hospital or community contacts. We are not presenting an established bulk-mail program or claiming distribution results that we have not documented. Printing support would help us develop this outreach thoughtfully, while any postage, shipping, tax, or other costs would need to be checked and budgeted separately.
With annual revenue under $50,000, UMLF must make careful choices about how to use limited resources. A printing grant would help us create consistent, useful materials while preserving funds for family support. Our priority would be clear information that reaches people with care: a brochure that makes a referral possible, a card that keeps a connection available, or a handout that helps a family find the next step. We would welcome support for a realistic print project matched to the award we receive.
