For valuable information about using a brochure printing company,
take a look below to help you become a better-educated buyer of discount printing
services.
Brochures are single sheet documents usually printed in a full four-color offset
printing process. The three sheet sizes that are generally offered by printing companies
are 8-1/2 x 11, 8-1/2 x 14, and 11 x 17. They promote your company’s products and
services, letting the reader know what you can do for them. It also represents your
business when you are not there, so it should be as professional as possible.
Quality is very important. Getting a quality product at a fair price should be your
top priority. Consider what is important when choosing a cheap printing company.
A good online printing company will walk you through the process and will have quick
and user-friendly online printing service ordering and design services.
Content Tips For Your Brochures
The content of your printing is another important consideration. When developing
effective advertising it is essential to collect all of your copy and graphics before
embarking on the design process because you will need to know how much space you
have to fit the content. Most online printers will give you a free electronic (PDF)
final proof for approval before any printing is done.
Before you print, ask yourself, “What is this for?” Is it a sales piece, or is it
informational in nature? With your objective in mind you can better develop the
content and when doing so consider the services you provide, information about what
you do, how you do it, and what are the benefits of your product and/or service.
One effective way to display printed content is with bullet points. This helps the
reader quickly scan through information instead having to read and process a lot
of text.
All of your content should be persuasive, exude confidence in your offer, and convey
a sense of quality and competence to the reader. If the reader feels you know what
you are talking about, then they will be more confident in your ability to get the
job done.
Tri-fold or Half-fold
There are two important considerations when deciding brochure layouts. Will it be
a tri-fold creating six panels or will it have a half-fold, creating four panels
front and back? A tri-folded has six panels, the inside and outside left, center,
and right. A half-folded has four panels, the inside and outside left and right.
The front panel should be simple and direct with the headline and any images located
on the top half so wherever it is placed it is easily read and stands out. As for
the back cover it might contain a biography, a mission statement, plus credentials
and/or affiliations. Always include contact information, like phone, address, fax,
e-mail, website address, etc. on the back panel.
Most of the content should be in the inside panels. When designing the inner panels
of the brochure it is important to realize that when a reader opens the printed
brochure, the inside panels are not just two or three panels; they
are one continuous field of information; the panels should be designed as one piece
but still have the ability to stand on their own.
Green Printing
There has been a lot of buzz about green printing in the past few years. It seems
like everyone in the industry wants to get on the green printing
and eco friendly printing bandwagon. The sad thing is that a lot of online printing
companies talk a good talk about being green printers and environmentally friendly
printing initiatives, but don’t really walk the walk. How can a small business owner
or small business professional tell the difference between an environmentally responsible
online printing company, and the ones that are just “green washing”?
Take a look at the websites of online printing services. Almost all of them mention
“going green” or “sustainable printing” practices. Very few of them will have information
about their green printer certification status. An online discount printing service
that is serious about green printing and environmental stewardship will be FSC-certified.
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international organization that helps
ensure that paper and other wood products are sourced from well-managed forests,
and that the wood was not harvested from clear-cutting operations, or from rain
forests, or disturbed or took advantage of indigenous peoples who live in and around
the forested lands.
Getting FSC certification is not easy. It is a time and money intensive process.
FSC-certified green printers must undergo a rigorous auditing and inspection process
on an ongoing basis from a third-party certification body in order to achieve and
maintain their FSC-certification. If you visit an online printing company that claims
to be FSC-certified, but does not display or disclose its FSC-certification number
or certificate, then take your business elsewhere.
Some other things that online printing companies and online discount printing
services will do to further their environmental efforts is to use soy and vegetable
based inks, alcohol-free fountain solutions, recycle waste paper and used printing
plates, and carefully control the emissions of chemicals into the environment. Make
sure you spend some time reading what online companies are really doing to help
the environment. Make sure they are FSC certified. Don’t be fooled by the online
printing companies that are trying to look green, but don’t really act green. Conquest
Graphics has been an eco-friendly green printer since before it was fashionable.
