Cheap greeting cards: now there’s a sensitive subject. Sure, cheap
brochures and cheap door hangers: that’s easy enough to understand. But cheap greeting
cards? Greeting cards are, well, personal, and if you send a cheap card you are
also sending a message. What would that message be? How about – I don’t think you’re
worth spending any money on…Ouch!
Cheapness is in the eye of the beholder
OK, so we need to understand what we’re talking about here. Cheap doesn’t have to
mean cheap-looking. That’s what it boils down to. It comes down to the fact that
high quality doesn’t have to be high cost. It can be something as simple as a font
or a color. Some fonts give your greeting card a refined and rather elegant look.
Quality paper stock doesn’t have to be particularly expensive. Designs can be simple
but can still make a nice impression. Cheap greeting cards can
be done so well that no one gives any thought to the cost, or they may mistakenly
assume that the cost is much higher than it really is. Who needs to tell them?
Go green and save money doing it
There has been a lot of buzz about green printing in the past few years. It seems
like everyone in the industry wants to get on the green printing
and eco friendly printing bandwagon. The sad thing is that a lot of online printing
companies talk a good talk about being green printers and environmentally friendly
printing initiatives, but don’t really walk the walk. How can a business owner or
business professional tell the difference between an environmentally responsible
online printing company, and the ones that are just “green washing”?
Take a look at the websites of online printing services. Almost all of them mention
“going green” or “sustainable printing” practices. Very few of them will have information
about their green printer certification status. An online discount printing service
that is serious about green printing and environmental stewardship will be FSC-certified.
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international organization that helps
ensure that paper and other wood products are sourced from well-managed forests,
and that the wood was not harvested from clear-cutting operations, or from rain
forests, or disturbed or took advantage of indigenous peoples who live in and around
the forested lands.
