The use of short run magazine printing makes a lot of sense, if
you happen to be a business woman who thinks tactically. Let’s say you sell kitchen
appliances as part of your kitchen design business. And let’s say you have decided
to pick up a new line of stoves and refrigerators and you want to incorporate this
new line into your business on a going forward basis. You have two thousand existing
customers – people who have bought your services and products over the years. What
you might want to do is put together a magazine with layouts which display these
new products, and you may want to put together a magazine to showcase your new ideas.
You have to learn to turn on a dime
What would be the value of a short run here? Simple. You pick out the five hundred
customers who haven’t updated their kitchens in ten years or more and those are
the ones who will get your short run magazine. It’s much more likely
that that particular grouping of customers will be ready for an upgrade, and so
those are the ones you go after first. Once that short run of magazines has given
you the results you might have expected, then you try another short run for those
two hundred customers who bought between eight and ten years ago. If you find that
the results are not as good, then you know that you have arrived at your point of
diminishing returns but you have not wasted much money. Thus, the printing of a
short run of magazines is a great way to use your marketing resources effectively.
Short runs don’t have to short change the environment
There has been a lot of buzz about green printing in the past few years. It seems
like everyone in the industry wants to get on the green printing
and eco friendly printing bandwagon. The sad thing is that a lot of online printing
companies talk a good talk about being green printers and environmentally friendly
printing initiatives, but don’t really walk the walk. How can a business owner or
business professional tell the difference between an environmentally responsible
online printing company, and the ones that are just “green washing”?
Take a look at the websites of online printing services. Almost all of them mention
“going green” or “sustainable printing” practices. Very few of them will have information
about their green printer certification status. An online discount printing service
that is serious about green printing and environmental stewardship will be FSC-certified.
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international organization that helps
ensure that paper and other wood products are sourced from well-managed forests,
and that the wood was not harvested from clear-cutting operations, or from rain
forests, or disturbed or took advantage of indigenous peoples who live in and around
the forested lands.
