In this day and age of the internet, what’s really the point of a printing a magazine?
Not everyone wants to use an electronic reading device.
You can lounge around with a magazine. You can drape it across your leg while you’re
reaching for the remote. You can fling it on the table and pick it up later. You
can toss it on the back seat of the car.
A Kindle reader isn’t like that. You have to hold it at an exact angle so you can
see it properly. You can’t fling it around or it will break. It won’t balance on
your leg when you’re reaching for the remote.
A magazine makes a great lounge act
People still like magazines because you can relax with them so much better than
you can with a mini-computer. Some people say, ‘Well, an electronic reader is better
on an airplane. That’s what everyone reads on their flight from Chicago to Los Angeles.’
Of course they do. But that’s only because no one can relax on an airplane. Everyone
is uptight anyway. Nervous passengers. Crying babies. The fear of terrorism. That’s
right. Might as well break out your Kindle and just confirm how uncomfortable you
truly are.

There has been a lot of buzz about green printing in the past few years. It seems
like everyone in the industry wants to get on the green printing and eco friendly
printing bandwagon. The sad thing is that a lot of online printing companies talk
a good talk about being green printers and environmentally friendly printing initiatives,
but don’t really walk the walk. How can a business owner or business professional
tell the difference between an environmentally responsible online printing company,
and the ones that are just “green washing”?
Take a look at the websites of online printing services. Almost all of them mention
“going green” or “sustainable printing” practices. Very few of them will have information
about their green printer certification status. An online discount printing service
that is serious about green printing and environmental stewardship will be FSC-certified.
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international organization that helps
ensure that paper and other wood products are sourced from well-managed forests,
and that the wood was not harvested from clear-cutting operations, or from rain
forests, or disturbed or took advantage of indigenous peoples who live in and around
the forested lands.
