Can you tell the difference between a postcard which has been
printed using digital processes and one using traditional
printing methods? The answer should be “no”, although the reality is that almost
all printing is moving in the direction of digital. Traditional printing methods
could produce very high quality results, so what’s the benefit of the change?
The action takes place behind the scenes
The advantage of the digital component in printing is more about
the process of getting there than the final destination. It means the ability to
move files around from work station to work station, or from one side of the world
to the other. It means the capability to alter the picture itself, by going into
the digital file and changing shapes, colors, add removing or adding
elements as required. At Conquest Graphics, our emphasis is on upgrading our digital
capabilities so that our customers have no barriers to achieving the results they
are looking for.
Let’s face it. This is the digital age. It still takes a printing
press to get the ink on the postcard. But modern day digital processes
give you an almost unlimited ability to create and modify the text and images that
end up on the final product.
Digital and environmental: two revolutions for the price of one
There has been a lot of buzz about green printing in the past few years. It seems
like everyone in the industry wants to get on the green printing
and eco friendly printing bandwagon. The sad thing is that a lot of online printing
companies talk a good talk about being green printers and environmentally friendly
printing initiatives, but don’t really walk the walk. How can a business owner or
business professional tell the difference between an environmentally responsible
online printing company, and the ones that are just “green washing”?
Take a look at the websites of online printing services. Almost all of them mention
“going green” or “sustainable printing” practices. Very few of them will have information
about their green printer certification status. An online discount printing service
that is serious about green printing and environmental stewardship will be FSC-certified.
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international organization that helps
ensure that paper and other wood products are sourced from well-managed forests,
and that the wood was not harvested from clear-cutting operations, or from rain
forests, or disturbed or took advantage of indigenous peoples who live in and around
the forested lands.
