Who invented door hangers? And why is it that we allow them to be used? Think about
it: when someone comes onto your property and leaves a cheap door hanger,
he is trespassing and intruding on your privacy without your invitation. And yet
it seems as though it’s perfectly acceptable, even today. How can this be?
Perhaps it’s for the same reason that people are always happy to open up their mail
box: you never know what you’re going to get. It might be a letter from a long-lost
friend, or it might be a special offer for a product. When you come home and see
a door hanger, your first thought is not anger, but sympathy: ‘That poor fellow
had to walk several miles to cover this neighborhood. It must be important.’
Door hangers are a way of building neighborly relationships

message. And so when you look at the door hanger and see that you

Pizza Parlor, of course you feel a certain kinship with Salvatore, in that he wants
you and your neighbors to be his customers and he is willing to take the time and
trouble to walk all around your neighborhood to let you know he is waiting for your
first visit. And that’s why people respond well to the cheap printing of door
hangers.
It’s not easy being green? Oh, yes it is.
There has been a lot of buzz about green printing in the past few years. It seems
like everyone in the industry wants to get on the green printing
and eco friendly printing bandwagon. The sad thing is that a lot of online printing
companies talk a good talk about being green printers and environmentally friendly
printing initiatives, but don’t really walk the walk. How can a business owner or
business professional tell the difference between an environmentally responsible
online printing company, and the ones that are just “green washing”?
Take a look at the websites of online printing services. Almost all of them mention
“going green” or “sustainable printing” practices. Very few of them will have information
about their green printer certification status. An online discount printing service
that is serious about green printing and environmental stewardship will be FSC-certified.
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international organization that helps
ensure that paper and other wood products are sourced from well-managed forests,
and that the wood was not harvested from clear-cutting operations, or from rain
forests, or disturbed or took advantage of indigenous peoples who live in and around
the forested lands.
