Why would anyone want a cheap calendar? Clearly there is a market
for cheap “anything”, but why calendars? Calendars are a great marketing tool because
they are inherently useful and they can be used to convey a wealth of information.
Let’s say you are at the state fair and you are advertising your car repair business.
Thousands of people walk past your booth every day. A small percentage stop and
talk to you. Now suppose that you have decided to hand out brochures. As you are
going home at night, you may find half of your brochures in the trash bin down by
the ferris wheel. Someone might take a brochure but then realize that they don’t
want to carry it around all day.
Calendars have inherent value beyond the advertising
But a calendar has an inherent advantage over a brochure. Someone who takes your
calendar will say, “I can use a calendar. This might be perfect for the garage.”
And that’s what you want. Because if that calendar advertising your car repair service
is on the wall of his or her garage, and he one day realizes that he needs service
work on your car, then he has a resource to turn to right in front of him.
And that’s what you want to achieve with the printing of cheap calendars:
someone who uses the calendar for its own sake but who gets the benefit of your
service when the need for it arises.
Just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean it can’t be green
There has been a lot of buzz about green printing in the past few years. It seems
like everyone in the industry wants to get on the green printing
and eco friendly printing bandwagon. The sad thing is that a lot of online printing
companies talk a good talk about being green printers and environmentally friendly
printing initiatives, but don’t really walk the walk. How can a business owner or
business professional tell the difference between an environmentally responsible
online printing company, and the ones that are just “green washing”?
Take a look at the websites of online printing services. Almost all of them mention
“going green” or “sustainable printing” practices. Very few of them will have information
about their green printer certification status. An online discount printing service
that is serious about green printing and environmental stewardship will be FSC-certified.
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international organization that helps
ensure that paper and other wood products are sourced from well-managed forests,
and that the wood was not harvested from clear-cutting operations, or from rain
forests, or disturbed or took advantage of indigenous peoples who live in and around
the forested lands.
