The printed tri-fold brochure for retailers is a way to provide information about the retail store that give customers a reason to shop in your location.

A store owner may want to use a tri-fold brochure to help attract more new customers or retain old ones.  When a retailer is poised for growth a glossy brochure can help spread the word about what makes them unique.  The brochure may be mailed, handed out at events or inserted in displays.

Here are few great ways that a retailer can use a tri-fold brochure in order to expand its presence:

1. Emphasize services offered, not prices or specific items:  A tri-fold brochure is usually meant to have a longer shelf life so if your store has many new fashions or products that change frequently, then be careful advertising prices in a brochure that may last longer than your sale.  If you carry a wide range of products, then a better bet for you may be a catalog.  But if you want to emphasize services that the general public may not know about, a brochure is a great vehicle.   Some services may include:

a. special delivery arrangements;
b. cleaning or repair services for the products you sell
c. ability to acquire hard-to-find items or special orders
d. custom made products or special services

In fact, the more you emphasize your ability to provide services, not just sell products, the more people will come to you for both.

2. Give an overview of what makes your store special: While you may not want to list all the products you carry, you can discuss the types of products or brands that you have on-hand on a regular basis.  Let people know that you specialize in shoes for serious runners or fly fishing gear for the true enthusiast.  If you have a passion about your product or service (or an interesting story of how your store got started) share that with your potential customers.  It helps humanize your business and make people feel good about supporting you.

3. Outline your store credit card or in-house financing programs. Many retailers offer special financing terms for their customers. A brochure is a great place to outline the terms of such a plan or to let new customers know how they might qualify.

4. Provide Basic Information.  In every tri-fold brochure make sure you include the basics:

a. Store hours
b. Store location(s) and map
c. Address and phone number
d. URL for your website
e. Social Media Connections

Pictures of your location, your store or some products can add to the visual interest. Photos increase the visual interest and show people what your location looks like. Make sure the photos are high resolution and have a focal point.

As with any brochure, make sure that you do not try to jam too much information into it as people will not read the tri-fold brochure if it appears too cluttered.  White space is a good thing to help the eye know where to focus.

Also, if you do carry certain brand name products on a regular basis, then look into co-op advertising if you feature a brand product.  Some manufacturers will offer to pay for a portion of the advertising if they are prominently displayed on the brochure.
